Construction work due to laying the Digital Region network
Construction work for Digital Region, South Yorkshire's broadband network, is currently underway in many areas across the four local authority areas of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield. Construction of the network will be completed by mid 2012.
Digital Region will provide Super-fast Broadband with speeds of at least 25Mb to the majority of homes and businesses in South Yorkshire. The provision of this level of broadband service will transform the region, creating significant economic and social investment. To the individual, the network will give access to enhanced internet and broadband services.
Thales UK's subcontractors, KCOM and North Midland Construction, started construction of the network at the end of June. This work involves laying cable in the public highways.
