Digital Region superfast broadband is delivered through fibre optic cable that enable much faster connections than traditional broadband.
The fibre optic network that has been built across South Yorkshire is superfast. It delivers consistent upload and download speeds and is much more reliable and secure for people to use.
Superfast
The Digital Region network currently has an average download speed of 37Mbps, over six times faster than the UK average (reported by OFCOM). Upload speeds are an impressive 13 Mbps which means the network is truly superfast.
What’s more, speeds of 40 – 100 Mbps will soon be available on the network making South Yorkshire one of the best connected regions in the UK.
How it works
At the moment traditional broadband uses copper wires to connect the telephone cabinet on your street to the telephone exchange. The further your street cabinet is from the exchange, the slower the speed of your internet.
Superfast broadband from Digital Region uses fibre optic cables to connect the street cabinet to the exchange.
A fibre optic cable can transmit a huge amount of data over large distances, which means extremely fast Internet speeds regardless of the distance from the exchange.
