Case study: 3Squared Ltd

3Squared is an award winning software development company based in Sheffield.

The business was set up 10 years ago by James Fox and Tim Jones, two graduates from Sheffield Hallam University. Since then, 3Squared has undergone significant growth. From it’s beginnings with just the directors, the company now employs an impressive 21 staff and recently moved to larger offices in February 2012 to allow for further growth.

At present, the main focus of the company is in developing apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Current successes include an app for Royal Caribbean cruises that allows guests to order wine with their meal direct from an iPad device, increasing efficiency for the company and improving customer satisfaction.

Superfast broadband

Access to a reliable and superfast broadband connection is vital for 3Squared. They decided to connect to the Digital Region network through the Internet Service Provider (ISP) Digital City Region on 30th July 2010 and was one of the first companies to be connected.

The superfast broadband network gives the company speeds of 37Mbps download and 6Mbs upload, which is 3 times faster than they were previously getting through a standard broadband connection.

Of particular importance to 3Squared are the upload speeds available. The company regularly uploads content to external servers so that clients can view work in progress.

James Fox said “As a growing company, we needed a connection that we wouldn’t outgrow. With superfast broadband from Digital Region, our staff can work quickly, efficiently and offer the highest level of service to our clients. As our business continues to grow, we know our connection can handle both increased demand and constantly advancing technologies. We couldn’t imagine going back to standard broadband – with Digital Region, 3Squared can stay ahead of the curve.

“We’re very proud of our Sheffield roots and work hard to put things back into the Sheffield.”
