Case study: Bigfoot Digital

Bigfoot Digital is an internet marketing agency based at Barnsley’s Digital Media Centre (DMC).

The company offers internet marketing expertise across a range of sectors and provides services from Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), to Facebook marketing and even internet marketing training.

Business partners Mark Woodcock and Lindsey Watson launched Bigfoot Digital in 2009 and since then have seen the company going from strength to strength. More recently this has been with the help of their superfast broadband connection from Digital Region.

Before connecting to Digital Region

Bigfoot Digital previously had a standard broadband connection and this quickly became unworkable. A reliable and fast connection is an essential business requirement and this was one of the reasons that they chose to move to Barnsley .

Superfast broadband is vitally important for Bigfoot Digital across a number of key business areas; including uploading and downloading websites as well as video creation and video marketing.

Lindsey Watson, Marketing Manager at Bigfoot Digital said;

“I used to find that I couldn’t just watch videos when I needed to and things took longer than it should have done. Slow broadband speeds weren’t conducive to effective working. We looked at all sorts of ways to overcome the problem and one alternative was to upgrade our internet connection, but the costs were too great.”

“The broadband package we now have is perfect. It is really cost effective and having access to superfast broadband at a reasonable price was a big draw to relocating the business to South Yorkshire.”

Mark Woodcock (Managing Director) added; “As well as a superfast connection, we also need a reliable and secure service. We previously had spells of downtime and occasions where the internet crashed, it was so frustrating. Now there are a number of users on our system and no matter what any of us are doing we always have an internet connection and the system doesn’t crash.”

Since joining the Digital Region network

Bigfoot Digital report being able to work much more efficiently because they are not waiting for uploads, struggling with downtime or dealing with crashes.

“We can very quickly upload to 40 or 50 web pages and it literally takes mere seconds” said Mark “this ultimately impacts significantly on staff productivity and makes us more effective and efficient as a company.”

Locating in South Yorkshire has not only been positive due to the superfast broadband that is available. The pool of high quality graduates that are experienced in the digital industries has enabled the company to expand and they recently recruited a Sheffield Hallam University graduate to work on the development of video content, a role that depends heavily on a strong and reliable internet connection.

“Recruiting more staff was one of the things that we didn’t think we would be able to get within our budget, but moving to South Yorkshire has been worth its weight in gold” said Lindsey.

Going forward Bigfoot Digital aspire to great things and continued expansion. Following a recent company rebrand, new website and a marketing push about to start this year, they firmly believe they have the network in place that is future proof, able to handle increased workloads and even more users.
